“Your dream was to get married, to meet that handsome stranger who would transform your life… it was all part of the fantasy you’d have - in the secrecy of your bedroom!”
People danced six nights a week in those days. On a good night, the Jetland Ballroom would be heaving with up to 4,500 people dancing their socks off! Everyone was really into dancing in those days.
After two years of courtship – well, you’d save for a one room flat or if you could get it, a council place. There was a shortage of housing and bad unemployment, but life was a lot simpler then…”
